ABOUT THE ARTIST
FRANK PLANES, also known as Mr.WhiteCane, was born in Manhatten, New York, and has lived in the "Deep South" since 1950. After attending the University of Florida, he has owned and operated several successful companies. When a stroke retired him, taking most of his vision and leaving him legally blind, seeing as if through a vertical crack in a board, new things had to be learned and discovered. While recovering, in 2002, he took a digital camera outside and saw the world in a new way. Not being able to compose, using the viewfinder or LED, he developed a system to take high quality fine art digital photographs with his limited vision. With a business plan written with assistance from Abilities of Florida, he received a grant from the Florida Division of Blind Services. With new equipment and knowledge learned at St. Petersburg College, he became a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, NAPP. He now processes his digital photographs and prints them in a way that shows his appreciation for the colors in nature, bringing to others, the attention to life around them. By being able to do this work which people display in their homes and offices, has brought great pleasure to this artist.

Along with winning many contests and awards, having six photographs displayed in THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, WASHINGTON, D.C. are currently the highlight of Frank Planes Achievements. They are in the Division of Birds Office and the Division of Education.
